FIFA cuts world cup ticket prices after backlash, offers $60 seats to loyal fans.

After a wave of global backlash, FIFA has made a rare U-turn on World Cup ticket prices slashing the cost for some of the tournament’s most loyal fans.

FIFA has announced a reduction in ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following widespread backlash from football fans and supporter groups over the affordability of match tickets. In response to the criticism, the world football governing body introduced a new $60 ticket category, aimed at loyal supporters of participating national teams, marking a significant shift in its ticketing strategy. The discounted seats will be made available through national football federations and are expected to account for a portion of each country’s ticket allocation across all 104 matches of the expanded tournament.

The decision follows strong opposition to earlier pricing structures, which critics described as exclusionary and out of touch with everyday fans, especially as the tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico and feature 48 teams for the first time.

FIFA also announced that administrative fees will be waived for ticket refunds requested after the final, offering additional relief to supporters. While the move has been welcomed as a step toward inclusivity, fan groups continue to call for greater transparency and broader access to affordable tickets as preparations for the global showpiece intensify.
