Ethiopian peacekeepers deployed to South Sudan have been awarded the United Nations Medal in recognition of their service, professionalism and commitment to maintaining peace under the mandate of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
The medal award ceremony, held at the peacekeepers’ base in South Sudan, brought together senior UN officials, military commanders and representatives of the host government.
The event marked the successful completion of the Ethiopian contingent’s tour of duty, during which they carried out a range of security and protection responsibilities in one of the world’s most fragile environments.
Recognition of Service Under Difficult Conditions
During the ceremony, UNMISS leadership praised the Ethiopian troops for their discipline, resilience and dedication while operating in challenging and unpredictable conditions.
