Ghana Condemns “Inhumane” Treatment of Citizens at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport.

Ghana condemned on Wednesday what it called the "inhumane" treatment of its citizens at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport, after several travellers were detained or deported since Sunday.

The Government of Ghana has strongly condemned what it describes as the “inhumane and unacceptable” treatment of several Ghanaian travelers at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport, calling for an immediate investigation and accountability from Israeli authorities.

According to Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, multiple Ghanaian passengers reported being subjected to harsh security procedures upon arrival, including prolonged detention, aggressive questioning, and the seizure of personal belongings without clear explanation. Some travelers were allegedly denied entry despite possessing valid travel documents.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry said the treatment violated basic international standards and the dignity of Ghanaian citizens. Officials stressed that while security protocols are the sovereign right of every country, such measures must be applied with fairness, transparency, and respect for human rights.

The Ghanaian government has summoned the Israeli Ambassador to Accra to formally register its protest and demand clarification. It has also instructed its mission in Tel Aviv to follow up on the situation and ensure the welfare of affected travelers.

Israel has not yet issued an official response, but diplomatic observers expect the matter to feature prominently in upcoming bilateral engagements.

This latest development comes at a time when several African travelers have raised concerns over discriminatory airport practices in parts of the Middle East, prompting renewed calls for stronger protections and clearer travel protocols.

Ghana says it will continue to engage Israeli authorities until the issue is fully resolved, emphasizing that its citizens “must be treated with dignity wherever they travel.”
