Senegal through to AFCON final after 1-0 win against Egypt

Sadio Mané fired Senegal into the final of the Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 victory over seven-time winner Egypt on Wednesday.

Senegal have booked their place in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after securing a hard-fought 1–0 win against Egypt in their semi-final encounter.

The closely contested match was decided in the 78th minute, when Sadio Mané scored the decisive goal, capitalizing on a blocked effort to fire home and give the Teranga Lions the breakthrough they had been pressing for. Senegal dominated possession for large periods of the game and created the better chances, while Egypt remained resolute in defense for much of the contest.
Despite the presence of star forward Mohamed Salah, Egypt were unable to find an equalizer, bringing an end to the seven-time champions’ campaign. Senegal’s defensive organization and midfield control proved crucial in seeing out the victory.

However, the win came at a cost for Senegal, as captain Kalidou Koulibaly and midfielder Habib Diarra both picked up yellow cards that rule them out of the final through suspension.
Senegal will now face hosts Morocco in the AFCON final, setting up a highly anticipated showdown as they chase another continental title. The victory underlines Senegal’s consistency on the African stage and keeps their hopes alive of lifting the trophy once again.
