Six people were injured after a fire broke out at the international terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred at the airport’s Terminal 1, prompting an emergency response from fire services and aviation authorities.
Thick smoke was seen billowing from part of the building as firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the terminal.
According to airport officials, the injured individuals sustained minor injuries, largely due to smoke inhalation and panic during the evacuation process.
They were attended to by emergency responders and taken for medical evaluation.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the fire was quickly brought under control and that investigations were underway to determine the cause of the incident.
Initial reports suggest the blaze may have originated from a section of the terminal’s electrical infrastructure, although authorities have not released a definitive cause.
Passengers and airport staff were temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure, leading to some flight disruptions. However, airport authorities assured the public that normal operations would resume once safety assessments were completed.
The incident raised concerns over safety infrastructure at one of West Africa’s busiest airports, but officials maintained that emergency protocols were promptly activated, helping to limit injuries and structural damage.
Further updates are expected following a detailed assessment by aviation safety authorities.
