The United Kingdom has announced that it will discontinue the issuance of physical visa stickers for Nigerian applicants and replace them with electronic visas (eVisas), effective February 25, 2026.
According to the UK authorities, the move forms part of efforts to modernise the immigration system and transition to a fully digital process. Under the new arrangement, successful Nigerian visa applicants will no longer receive visa vignette stickers pasted into their passports.
Instead, they will be issued a digital immigration status, which can be accessed online.
The UK government explained that the eVisa system is designed to enhance security, reduce the risk of document loss or fraud, and make it easier for individuals to prove their immigration status.
Travellers will be required to create and link their travel documents to a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, through which their visa status will be accessible.
Officials noted that the change applies to most visa categories and is part of the broader digitisation of the UK border and immigration framework.
The British High Commission emphasised that applicants should ensure their passports are properly linked to their online accounts before travelling to avoid disruptions.
The development means that from February 25, Nigerian travellers granted UK visas will rely entirely on the digital system rather than physical visa endorsements in their passports.
