Volta Regional Minister Applauds MASLOC outreach to Market Women

The Minister assured the MASLOC team of the full support of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) and reiterated his commitment to initiatives that promote economic empowerment, especially among market women.

The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has applauded the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) for its outreach programme aimed at supporting market women in the region.

The commendation came during a courtesy call by the Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Madam Abigail Yaa Mensah, and her team as part of a familiarisation tour of the Volta Region.

The outreach programme seeks to educate market women and other small-scale business operators on how to access MASLOC loans, while also stressing the importance of repayment to ensure the sustainability of the scheme.

Hon. Gunu described the initiative as timely and beneficial, noting that it would help improve access to financial support for traders and boost economic activities within the region. He further indicated that such interventions align with government efforts to strengthen the local economy and empower small businesses.

He also highlighted that ongoing efforts to sanitise MASLOC would help restore public confidence in the scheme and enhance its effectiveness in delivering financial assistance to beneficiaries.

The Minister assured the MASLOC team of the full support of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) and reiterated his commitment to initiatives that promote economic empowerment, especially among market women.

He further recalled his tenure as District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, where he used part of the Assembly’s internally generated funds to provide loans to market women to complement government interventions.
