Pope Leo XIV Calls for Peace During Easter Celebrations
Catholic faithful around the world gathered on Easter Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and to share a message of hope.

Catholics around the world came together on Easter Sunday, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ with a shared sense of hope and renewal.
At St. Peter’s Square, more than 50,000 people gathered to hear Pope Leo XIV deliver his first Easter message. Speaking with a calm but urgent tone, he called on world leaders to choose peace over conflict. He made it clear that real peace isn’t something that can be forced it has to come through honest dialogue and a willingness to understand one another.
He also warned about what he described as a growing “globalization of indifference,” a concern often raised by Pope Francis. It’s a reminder, he said, that too many people are becoming used to suffering around the world instead of responding to it.
In the Middle East, the impact of ongoing conflict was especially visible. In Jerusalem, the area around the Church of the Holy Sepulchre a place deeply important to Christians was unusually quiet. Tight security meant only a small number of worshippers could gather there, a stark contrast to the usual crowds seen during Easter.
Even with these challenges, the message of the day remained strong, hope is still alive, and the call for peace has never been more important.
