King Mohammed VI Honors Atlas Lionesses at Throne Day Reception in M’diq

M’diq, July 26, 2025 – His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, presided over a grand reception at the M’diq‑Fnideq prefecture square to mark the 26th anniversary of His accession to the Throne of His Glorious Ancestors. The ceremony was attended by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid, and a distinguished audience of national and international dignitaries, including senior officials, ambassadors, cultural figures, and sports leaders.

The celebration paid special tribute to the Moroccan women’s national football team, the Atlas Lionesses, in honor of their historic second-place finish at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Hosted on home soil, the tournament saw the Moroccan side advance to the final, displaying exceptional skill, unity, and determination. His Majesty extended heartfelt congratulations to the players, coaches, and staff, praising their patriotic spirit and their significant contribution to the advancement of women’s sport in the Kingdom.
Among the notable guests was FIFA President Gianni Infantino, attending days after the inauguration of FIFA’s Africa Development Office at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé. The opening of this regional hub was hailed as a major milestone for African football governance and underscored Morocco’s growing prominence as a continental leader in the sport.
