Nigeria Declares December 25, 26 And January 1 Public Holidays For Festive Season.

A call for all Nigerians to use the holiday period to pray for national peace, security and progress, while celebrating responsibly and remaining law-abiding.


The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared December 25 and 26, 2025, as well as January 1, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year celebrations across the country. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, as part of efforts to allow Nigerians fully observe the festive season. In his message, the minister extended warm greetings to Christians and all Nigerians, urging citizens to reflect on the values of love, peace, sacrifice and unity that define the season.

He also called on Nigerians to use the holiday period to pray for national peace, security and progress, while celebrating responsibly and remaining law-abiding.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo further encouraged cooperation with security agencies to ensure a peaceful festive period nationwide, wishing Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
