Democracy Day 2026: FG Committed To Strengthening Democratic Governance, Promoting National Unity

As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us renew our commitment to unity, peaceful coexistence and responsible citizenship. Nigeria’s strength lies in our diversity, and our future depends on our ability to work together in the interest of our nation.

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, fnipr, joined the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, and other dignitaries in a special Juma’at prayer held to commemorate Nigeria’s 27th Democracy Day anniversary on June 5, 2026. The prayer session offered an opportunity for thanksgiving, reflection, and supplication for continued peace, unity, and democratic progress in the country.

Today, we joined millions of Nigerians in prayers for our beloved nation as part of activities marking the 27th Democracy Day celebration on June 12, 2026.

This solemn Juma’at service served as a reminder that Nigeria’s progress, peace, and unity require more than effective leadership. They also depend on the prayers, support, and active participation of every citizen.

As we commemorate Democracy Day, we honour the sacrifices of the heroes who fought to preserve the voice of the people, especially Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, whose courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to democracy remain a lasting inspiration in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Today is also an opportunity to celebrate the strength of our democratic institutions and the collective resolve of Nigerians to uphold constitutional governance. Twenty-seven years of uninterrupted democratic rule stand as a testament to the resilience of our people and our shared commitment to democratic values.

As we reflect on our journey as a nation, let us renew our dedication to unity, peaceful coexistence, and responsible citizenship. Nigeria’s diversity remains one of our greatest strengths, and our future depends on our willingness to work together for the common good. Let us reject division, embrace dialogue, and promote the values that strengthen our democracy and foster national cohesion.

Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous, and more united Nigeria for generations to come.

May God Almighty continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, grant wisdom to our leaders, protect our security personnel, and bless our nation with enduring peace, unity, and prosperity.

Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria. 🇳🇬
