Lebanon’s displaced scramble for shelter as Israel threatens more attacks

Dozens of displaced families are seeking shelter in Beirut on Thursday, as they have been forced to sleep on the streets with their belongings.

Displaced families in Lebanon are struggling to find shelter after Israel warned it could carry out more attacks in the country, raising fears of further escalation along the border.

Residents from villages in southern Lebanon have been leaving their homes and heading toward safer areas, particularly the capital Beirut and other northern regions, as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue to rise. Many families said they fled quickly, carrying only a few personal belongings as they searched for safety.

With thousands of people on the move, local authorities and humanitarian organisations say shelters are becoming increasingly crowded. Schools, public buildings and community centres have been turned into temporary shelters to accommodate displaced families.

Volunteers and aid groups are working to provide food, bedding and other emergency supplies, but resources remain limited as more people continue to arrive seeking refuge.

The latest displacement comes after Israel warned it may intensify military operations against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Israeli officials say the actions are aimed at preventing cross-border attacks and weakening the militant group’s presence near the border.

However, many civilians say they are once again caught in the middle of the conflict, forced to leave their homes without knowing when they will be able to return.

For Lebanon, the situation is especially difficult as the country continues to face a deep economic crisis, which has already strained public services and humanitarian support systems.

Aid workers warn that if tensions escalate further, more families may be forced to flee, worsening the humanitarian situation and increasing pressure on communities already hosting displaced people.
