CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Africa’s renewable energy sector is gaining unprecedented momentum, with the continent’s pipeline of planned clean energy projects reaching 88 gigawatts (GW) as governments and private investors increase efforts to address chronic electricity shortages while supporting the transition to low-carbon energy.
According to the latest industry assessments, the rapid expansion is being driven by growing investments in solar, wind, hydroelectric power and battery energy storage systems, which are increasingly being recognised as essential to improving grid reliability and integrating renewable energy into national electricity networks.
