Morocco Signs Strategic Digital Infrastructure Partnership with Vertiv to Advance AI and Digital Morocco 2030
The agreement was signed in Rabat on 27 July by Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni and Wojtek Piorko, Managing Director of Vertiv Africa, in the presence of Zineb Kamri, Vertiv's Regional Director for Northwest Africa.
Morocco has taken another significant step towards strengthening its digital economy after signing a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global critical digital infrastructure provider Vertiv to accelerate the development of cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and next-generation digital infrastructure under the country’s Digital Morocco 2030 strategy. The agreement was signed in Rabat by Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, and Vertiv’s Managing Director for Africa, Wojtek Piorko.
The partnership is expected to strengthen Morocco’s digital infrastructure through technical cooperation, knowledge exchange and the development of resilient cloud computing and AI-ready systems. It also supports the implementation of the government’s “AI Made in Morocco” roadmap, which seeks to position the Kingdom as a regional leader in artificial intelligence, digital innovation and advanced technology.
A major component of the agreement is the planned development of a 50-megawatt sovereign data centre in Rabat, designed to enhance Morocco’s national cloud capabilities, support AI platforms, high-performance computing, cybersecurity and the hosting of digital public services. Officials say the project will strengthen the country’s digital sovereignty while providing the infrastructure needed for future innovation and economic growth.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni described digital infrastructure as a cornerstone of Morocco’s digital sovereignty and an essential driver of innovation, artificial intelligence and public sector modernisation. She noted that Vertiv’s international expertise would help Morocco develop resilient, scalable and future-ready infrastructure capable of supporting the country’s long-term ambitions.
The agreement builds on Morocco’s broader digital transformation agenda. Earlier this year, the World Bank approved a US$250 million Digital Transformation Acceleration Program to support the country’s Digital Morocco 2030 strategy. The programme is designed to expand digital public services, strengthen cloud adoption, support startups and small businesses, promote AI innovation and increase digital skills among young people and women.
Morocco has also set ambitious targets for artificial intelligence. The government aims for AI to contribute approximately US$10 billion to the country’s GDP by 2030, while creating 50,000 AI-related jobs and equipping 200,000 graduates with AI skills. Investments in sovereign data centres, fibre-optic infrastructure and AI research form part of this long-term strategy to position Morocco as a digital gateway linking Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
The latest partnership with Vertiv reflects Morocco’s determination to build the digital infrastructure required for an AI-driven economy while reinforcing its position as one of Africa’s fastest-growing technology hubs. As countries across the continent accelerate investments in digital transformation, Morocco’s approach demonstrates how strategic collaboration between governments and global technology companies can support innovation, strengthen digital resilience and unlock new economic opportunities.
