Angola Unveils AngoREN Network to Drive Higher Education Digital Transformation

The ministry said the programme seeks to strengthen Angola’s integration into the global research and education ecosystem by building a more connected, technology-enabled academic environment.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESCTI) of Angola has unveiled the National Network for Education and Research of Angola (AngoREN) alongside an Executive Roadmap for the Digital Transformation of Higher Education, as part of efforts to modernise the country’s academic and research ecosystem.

The presentation was made during a national roadshow held on Wednesday, May 13, at the Flow Hotel in Ombaka, Benguela Province. The initiative forms part of the Higher Education, Science and Technology Development Project (TEST), which focuses on driving digital innovation across Angola’s tertiary education sector.

According to MESCTI, the roadshow is aimed at engaging key stakeholders, including government institutions, academia, the scientific community, telecommunications and technology companies, as well as the general public. The objective is to promote AngoREN and underscore its strategic role in strengthening national development through improved digital connectivity within higher education institutions.

The ministry noted that the programme is designed to enhance Angola’s integration into the global research and education ecosystem by fostering a more connected, technology-driven academic environment.

The Digital Transformation Roadmap is expected to guide the deployment of modern digital infrastructure across universities and research centres, improving access to knowledge systems while deepening collaboration both locally and internationally.

Through AngoREN and the wider transformation agenda, MESCTI aims to accelerate innovation, strengthen academic networking, and support the long-term digital modernization of higher education in Angola.
